Xicheng District (simplified Chinese: 西城区, Xīchéng Qū, means "West City District") covers Xidan commercial district, Financial Street (Jinrongjie), Beihai Park, Jingshan Park, Houhai and Zhongnanhai. Financial Street is part of the city's strategic plan to position Beijing as a domestic center for business and finance, which attracted over 300 famous multi-national companies mainly in finance, insurance and telecom industries over the last few years. Xicheng is also the political centre of Beijing, housing several political institutions including ministries and residential areas for the top officers of the communist party. The expatriate residential market has yet to take its shape, with currently only Westin Residence and the Apartment on Financial Street available, plus a few relatively higher-quality compounds.

Lane Crawford in Seasons Place Mall, located in the center of Financial Street, offers a plethora of premium brands and designer goods. You will most likely go to the Houhai area to join the bar and restaurant cluster by the lake or to explore the remains of the wealthier part of historical Beijing nearby. Or you might enjoy shopping in the large shopping area in Xidan. Xicheng district also includes Bejiing Zoo, Beihai Park and the impressive National Centre for the Performing Arts.

For culture, explore the world-class art galleries in the 798 Art District, a group of abandoned factories that are home to some of China's most innovative artists.
